Camping at Dilli Village

Operated by the University of the Sunshine Coast, Dilli Village offers 9 powered and 15 unpowered sites, all within a dingo-fenced area for added safety.

The campground is set just off 75 Mile Beach, surrounded by native vegetation like paperbarks and eucalypts, providing a shaded and serene environment. Facilities include toilets, hot showers, a camp kitchen with BBQs, washing-up facilities, and laundry, making it one of the more equipped sites on Fraser Island (K’gari).

Campfires are not permitted due to safety and environmental concerns, so bring a portable stove for cooking. Dilli Village also offers cabins, but the camping sites provide a more traditional outdoor experience with modern conveniences.

Getting to Dilli Village from Orchid Blue

From Orchid Blue, Dilli Village is a 1-hour 15-minute 4WD drive south along 75 Mile Beach, starting from Orchid Beach and heading toward Hook Point. Access is tide-dependent, so plan your trip 2 hours either side of low tide, checking times at https://www.bom.gov.au/.

A high-clearance 4WD with low-range functions is required, along with a Vehicle Access Permit (RAM) from https://parks.desi.qld.gov.au/, costing $61.80 for one month as of July 2026.

A camping permit may also be required if not included in the site booking, priced at $7.75 per person per night or $31 per family per night. The drive passes spots like Dundubara, with soft sand near Eurong requiring tyre pressure of 12–16 psi for better traction.

Safety and Tips for Dilli Village

Dilli Village is safe for camping, with dingo fencing providing protection, but still secure food in containers, keep children close, and bury scraps 50 cm deep to avoid attracting wildlife. The Queensland Department of Environment, Science and Innovation advises staying within designated camping zones to avoid fines and protect the environment.

With modern facilities, you’ll have access to hot showers and laundry, but bring a portable toilet for backup during peak times. Pack insect repellent for sandflies, especially at dusk, and a first aid kit for minor injuries, as medical services are limited on the island.
