Orchid Blue Holiday House Rules

The Rules

To help all guests enjoy a safe, comfortable, and memorable stay, we ask that you please observe the following house rules:

🔌 Power & Appliances (Off-Grid System)

    • No high-draw electrical appliances are permitted. This includes heaters, electric frypans, plug-in cookers, air fryers, and similar devices. The house runs on a solar + battery off-grid system which is robust, but limited.
    • Using prohibited appliances may trip the power system, resulting in expensive and remote technician callouts (which may be billed to you).
    • Approved appliances include: all provided fans, kitchen equipment, charging devices, TVs, and Wi-Fi equipment.

🐾 Pets

  • No pets of any kind are permitted.
Orchid Blue is located within a protected national park zone on Fraser Island (K’gari).
  • Bringing a pet is illegal and strictly enforced by rangers and police. Guests found with pets may be fined and escorted from the island.

🧼 Cleaning & Departure

The property is professionally cleaned before each stay, but due to its size and remote location, guests are required to:

    • Vacuum and sweep floors
    • Wipe down surfaces and tables
    • Empty the fridge and freezer of any food or mess
    • Leave the house in tidy condition upon departure
  • A cleaning checklist is provided in the house to guide your exit process.

🛏 Linen & Bedding

  • Guests must bring their own sheets (fitted + flat), doona covers, and pillowcases.
  • All pillows, doonas, and mattress protectors are provided.
  • A full linen list by bedroom is available on the website to help with packing and room allocation.

🚗 Parking & Boats

  • Parking for up to 6 vehicles is provided out the front of the house on a flat grassed area.
  • Boats are not permitted to be parked on the property. If you’re bringing a boat, please contact us in advance to arrange off-site storage options.

🚯 Waste Disposal

  • Dispose of rubbish in the correct bins and remove any excess waste. Fraser Island has limited waste services, and the transfer station is nearby if needed.
  • Do not leave any food or rubbish outside, as it can attract wildlife.

🔥 Fire Pit Use

  • The outdoor fire pit is for wood fires only. Please supervise children at all times and extinguish fires completely before leaving them unattended.
  • Observe local fire bans or restrictions, especially during dry months.

🥫 Pantry & Starter Supplies

We provide small starter quantities of tea, coffee, sugar, salt, and pepper. Additional food and supplies can be purchased at the nearby trading post, which also sells essentials like fuel, bread, milk, and frozen goods.

📶 Internet & Connectivity

Good Telstra (and Telstra wholesale/reseller) mobile coverage around Orchid Beach. Orchid Blue also has Starlink installed to keep internet fast when the tower gets busy over peak holiday periods.

🚭 Smoking

  • Smoking is not permitted inside the house.
  • Smoking is allowed outside only, and all butts must be disposed of safely—never on the ground or in garden areas.

🏞 Respect the Environment

  • Please help us protect K’gari (Fraser Island) by respecting nature, staying on tracks, and keeping noise to a minimum in outdoor areas.
  • Do not disturb wildlife, damage vegetation, or remove natural features.

If you have any questions, please refer to the in-house information guide or contact us prior to your arrival.

Thank you for helping us care for this special home and the island it sits on. Enjoy your stay at Orchid Blue!
