What to Bring to Fraser Island (K’gari)

Clothing & Weather

    • Fraser island (K’gari) typically offers warm, beach-friendly weather most of the year, but winter temperatures can drop as low as 12–15°C overnight in the winter months. Pack:
    • Lightweight clothing for the day
    • Warm jumper or jacket for cool evenings
    • Rainproof outer layer
    • Swimwear for freshwater creeks and lakes
    • Hat, sunglasses, and reef-safe sunscreen

Bring both sandals for the beach and sturdy closed shoes for inland tracks or walks.

Bedding & Linen

If you’re staying at Orchid Blue Holiday House, you must bring your own linen:

  • Fitted and flat sheets
  • Doona covers
  • Pillowcases

Pillows, doonas, and mattress protectors are supplied. A full room-by-room linen checklist is available to help you pack.

Toiletries & Personal Items

  • Island supplies can be limited or expensive. Bring all essential items, including:
  • Shampoo, conditioner, body wash
  • Toothpaste, toothbrush, deodorant
  • Insect repellent and reef-safe sunscreen
  • Moisturiser or after-sun care
  • Medications and personal hygiene products

Food & Alcohol

Groceries and alcohol on the island are more expensive than the mainland. It’s best to bring everything you need from Rainbow Beach or earlier.

    • Stock up on pantry items, fresh produce, meat, dairy, and snacks
    • Buy alcohol before arriving—selection on the island is limited and costly

Orchid Blue provides **multiple extra-large fridges and a chest freezer**, so you can safely bring all your chilled and frozen items

Gear & Essentials

To make your stay more comfortable and safe, consider packing:

  • Power bank or portable charger
  • Reusable water bottles
  • First-aid kit (We provide a basic one)
  • Torch or headlamp
  • Dry bags or waterproof containers
  • Daypack for beach or inland walks
  • Camera, binoculars, or fishing gear (if needed)
  • Offline maps or GPS (mobile signal is limited)
  • Printed or digital copies of your permits and booking confirmations

How to Check Rates

  • The standard minimum stay is 3 nights, but this may increase during peak periods, public holidays, or long weekends.
  • Exact minimums are clearly shown when selecting dates on the calendar.

Final Tip
