Central Station is where Fraser Island’s (K’gari) logging story and its rainforest recovery meet — once a logging camp, now one of the best places on the island to walk through genuine rainforest, with Wanggoolba Creek running through it. We’ve mentioned Central Station a few times now in earlier posts (it’s the reachable spot for both the island’s rainforest and its logging history), so this one’s the proper introduction.
The creek itself is famous for how clear its water is — it’s genuinely easy to think it’s dry until you dip a hand in.
Central Station is about 110 km south of Orchid Blue, roughly a 2-hour 4WD drive. Our Complete Guide to Central Station has the details, and our Complete Guide to Wanggoolba Creek covers the creek itself.
