Lake Wabby is Fraser Island’s (K’gari) deepest lake, reaching around 12 metres — a striking, emerald-green pool tucked against the dunes. We mentioned it briefly in our earlier post about the island’s sand dunes: the Hammerstone Sandblow is slowly creeping toward it, and will eventually swallow the lake completely. Estimates for dune movement on K’gari generally run at around 1–2 metres a year, so it’s a genuine, if slow-motion, race against the sand.
It’s about 100 km south of Orchid Blue — roughly a 2-hour drive plus a 45-minute walk in from 75 Mile Beach. Our Complete Guide to Lake Wabby covers the walk-in.
