When dusk falls, Fraser Island’s (K’gari) skies come alive with flying foxes. The grey-headed flying fox — with a wingspan of around a metre — is one of several species that roost in the island’s forests.
These bats play an important ecological role as pollinators and seed-dispersers, helping regrow the forests they call home each time they head out to feed.
Grab a seat on one of Orchid Blue’s decks around dusk and you’ll likely see them heading out for the night — see what else is close by to the house in our attractions guide.
