Following on from our earlier post on K’gari’s spring wildflowers, one plant deserves its own spotlight: the Fraser Island creeper. Its large pink trumpet flowers can climb up to 10 metres up a tree trunk, and it’s a genuinely rare sight — found only in a handful of isolated rainforest populations.
It’s rare, but not quite the total exclusive our earlier post implied — small isolated populations also exist on the Queensland mainland, in the south-east and north-east of the state. Fraser Island (K’gari) is still one of the best places in the world to see it growing wild, just not the only one.
It’s one of many small surprises tucked around Orchid Beach — see more of what’s close by to the house in our attractions guide.
